I don’t know how it is for other writers, but there are times I write things and between final edits and publication I forgot the exact tone. I always remember the plot and theme, but the tone of the piece sometimes fades into the background of all the other short stories I’ve written and read. And then the book or the magazine comes out. When it does, I always re-read my story to remind myself how I should talk about the work I did. Sometimes I’m surprised by what I read. This is one of those occasions. I just re-read my story, LOOKING FOR THE DEATH TRICK, in Both Barrels Vol. 3: Locked and Loaded, and DAMN! That one is dark. Darkedy dark dark. I forgot. But I love it! I hope you do too. Fair warning, though. The street light in that alley’s been shot out.
